Isabela island

Snorkeling Day Tour

Las Tintoreras is a small group of rocky islets located immediately south of Puerto Villamil, the capital town of Isabela. The site is renowned for its volcanic ‘cracks’ or small ‘channels’ between the islets, which provide a place favored by white-tip sharks (in Spanish: Tintoreras), and a rich variety of other local animals. This destination is famed for its wildlife encounters and is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, offering an array of activities, from scenic treks to snorkeling, kayaking and boating.

Las Tintoreras

During the short 10-20 minute trip from the port to the islets, you will see a rich variety of animals, including seabirds such as the rare endemic Galapagos Penguins (Spheniscus mendiculus), Blue-footed Boobies (Sula nebouxii), Frigate Birds, Pelicans, and Striated Herons (Butorides striata sundevalli), these alongside Sea Lions, Marine Iguanas (Amblyrhynchus cristatus), Sally Lightfoot Crabs, and Sea Turtles.

After walking around some of the small islets, you will get back on the boat move to a nearby area to cool off and snorkel next to White-tipped sharks, sea lions, stingrays, colorful reef fishes, starfish, and sea urchins.

Note: The proximity of the islets to the coastline makes it possible to undertake this tour on kayaks or paddleboards rather than a boat, making it perfect for guests who suffer from seasickness.
