A hike to Isabela’s Sulphur mines offers the opportunity to observe fascinating geothermal activity on the side of the Sierra Negra Volcano, the wild volcanic landscape you will cross providing for intense colors and a unique day trip.
Sierra Negra's Sulfur Mines
This tour starts with a one-hour drive to the entrance of the Galapagos National Park.
Upon arrival, you will cross the western side of the Sierra Negra crater, descending into the volcano’s caldera via a steep slope until you reach the observation area for the colorful Sulphur fumaroles.
As on all tours to the Sierra Negra Volcano, it is important on this half-day trip to protect yourself from the strong sun, take sufficient water, and wear sturdy shoes.

Activity
The tour, which lasts about 3 hours and covers some 4 km, is available AM or PM. It includes roundtrip transportation between your hotel and the starting point of the hike, a bilingual naturalist guide of the Galapagos National Park and a box lunch.
