Santa Fe

Snorkeling/ Game Fishing Day Tour

Santa Fe Island is an uninhabited island located about a 45-minute boat ride southeast of Santa Cruz. It can be explored as a land excursion or as described here as pure water tour in combination with Playa Escondida, the “Hidden beach”

Santa Fe & Playa Escondida

The tour departs at approximately 8:00 AM from the main pier in Puerto Ayora. Upon arrival at Santa Fe, you will take a boat ride along the cliffs to observe and photograph the island's native and endemic fauna and flora. Your naturalist guide will help you better understand this habitat. Here you have a good chance of spotting Blue-footed boobies, Frigate birds, Brown pelicans, Marine iguanas and Sea lions.

Afterwards you get ready for the first snorkeling session. The exact snorkeling locations will be selected on-site by the captain and the naturalist guide, depending on the activity and visibility. The places that are generally chosen are La Botella, El Barranco, La Bahia Principal and/or La Bahia Pescador. You´ll have great opportunity to observe white-tip sharks, sea lions, stingrays, sea turtles, sea urchins, sea star and colorful reef fish. Explore the coast on 2 snorkeling sessions, the operator provides well-maintained snorkel masks and fins on board. A snack and drinks await between activities, as well as a delicious hot lunch after the second snorkel session.

The afternoon is dedicated to the tour's second focus: fishing. Try your luck and catch a wahoo, yellowfin tuna, or dorado! You visit several shoals that are well known to the captain. Many captains of today's tourist tours are former fishermen.

Lastly, you drive to "Playa Escondida". This beach with white coral sand and turquoise water on the Santa Cruz coast is ideal for swimming and walking in search of marine iguanas, sally lightfoot crabs and lava lizards. The boat ride back to Puerto Ayora takes about 30 minutes.
